MS paint, Java running slowly?

I recently cleaned a rootkit off my computer (windows xp) using Kaspersky's TDSSKiller tool. In addition to finding the rootkit, the tool also labeled sptd.sys as a "suspicious file." Since running the scan and deleting the rootkit, my computer has been running at normal speed except for Microsoft Paint and any applications using Java, which are running slower than normal (even after deleting my temp files and cookies). Are the two events at all related? Should I be worried about the sptd.sys? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
