Son fell and landed on his lower back after dunking basketball...?

My Son dunked a basketball and fell, he landed on his lower left side lumbar. The next morning I check his back & no marks or bruising, but had huge swelling on left side of his spine. The swelling was the size of a footprint. Took him to see a nurse practitioner, his primary Dr. was not available, she had a lumbar xray done and said they saw a "blip" on his L5. She had a Dr. & Radiologist look it over and they think it could be a spina bifida....he is 14 yrs old...should I have his primary Dr. look it over too. They only took one quick xray.
