I have notice that i have snails in my fish tank my goldfish are dying?

not sure how the snails got in my fish tank do they come with the pebbles you buy at the shops is it normal, could this be the reason my fish have died do the black goldfish and the gold fish need a heater please help me as i don't want to loose any more of my fish
